...or as it is usually known: My living room. Once in a while I get questions about how I do my setups for portraits with pure white backgrounds such as the previous photo in my photostream. At a recent shoot I finally remembered to put on the wide angle lens and take a snapshot of the setup before I tore it down. The setup is very simple - two large bedsheets - one for the back wall and one for the floor. Two slave flashes are slightly behind the model to overexpose the background, and I have placed a black piece of cardboard on the side facing the model on each one to avoid the light 'leaking' onto the side of the model. I have put these two flashes on cheap mini-tripods to give me some control over their angle. The main lights are one Nikon SB-800 fired through the umbrella you can see top right in the picture and one slave flash through an umbrella just left of the picture. Not a professional setup by any means, but it works well and costs less in total than *one* good studio flash. And it is of course extremely portable and easy to tuck away. All the flashes are triggered by the small on-camera flash on my Nikon D200. Large version here. I hope some of you find this useful. A real studio of course makes things a lot easier and gives you way more options and control over every single element, but then again factors like price and space is important for those of us that don't have our main income from photography.
